  • Born in Smilov
  • Apprenticed in studio of Frantisek Drtikol and Augustin Skarda in Prague, 1917-1920, and continued working with Drtikol until 1925
  • The only photographer to join the avant-garde group Devetsil
  • Worked at the studio of Manuel Freres in Paris, 1925-1926
  • Worked with Freres, Lucien Lorelle, and other commercial studios in Paris, 1927-1935
  • Returned to Prague 1935 to his own studio
