  • 1939 began his career photographing and reporting sporting events
  • 1941 apprenticed to commercial photographers and studied photography at the State School of Applied Graphics at Smichov
  • 1942 befriended photographers Karel Ludwig and Zdenek Tmej, beginning lifelong influence and collaboration
  • 1949 became member of Czechoslovak Artists’ Union
