Born in Komorany, near Prague
Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, Prague, 1883-1884
Studied at the Munich Academy in1884, joining his friends Alphonse Mucha and Ludek Marold
Became one of the founding members of art society Skreta in 1885
Studied at the Academy Julian in Paris with Mucha as well, 1887-1888
Studied architecture at the Prague Technical University for one year
From 1898 he was a professor and head of the Department of Drawing and Painting at the Academy of Applied Arts, Prague
