1933-1936 attends secondary school near Prague, and then in Prague
apprenticeship with photographer Karel Hajek begins in 1936
attends the State School of Graphic Arts in 1939 for one year
collaboration and friendship with Vaclav Chochola and Karel Ludwig
forced into hard labor in Breslau, Germany, from 1942 to 1944, which he documented with approximately 100 photographs of the labor camp
joins Czechoslovak Fine Arts Union in 1949
imprisoned from 1958 to 1965
